Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF)
The second edition includes rope design particulars and documents including the Offer of Hawser Form and the OCIMF Compliance Certificate ensuring rope manufacturers, purchasers and inspectors have the latest guidance and information.
The working group compiled a questionnaire that was sent to manufacturers through The Cordage Institute, an international association of rope, twine, and related manufacturers, their suppliers, and affiliated industries. The replies received were used to update the relevant parts of this 2nd edition.
New figures have been added to help visualise and clarify what is meant in the corresponding text and all formulas, while still valid, were recalculated.
Section 7 - Manufacturer?s Record Book is a new addition that describes the minimum level of information and guidance that the purchaser should expect to receive from the manufacturer about storage, operations, inspection and maintenance of a hawser throughout its lifecycle. Instructions about post-lifecycle testing should be included.
The checklists found in the previous edition have been restyled and have also been made available in electronic format.
It is important to note that the word 'shall' used in the previous edition of the guidelines has been replaced by 'should'. The purchaser, and in particular their purchasing department, should be made aware that when the procedures laid down and recommended in this edition are to be applied, this should be clearly communicated to the manufacturer.
