Introduction:

These 36 charts present a comprehensive view of the hourly rate and direction of the major tidal current of the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine, including Georges Bank. The user may obtain the rate and direction of the current at any part of the above areas, at any time of the tidal cycle, by using the predictions for Saint John in the Atlantic Coast and Bay of Fundy Tide and Current tables, volume one, in conjunction with these charts.

Source ─ The source of the current information on these chart is a hydro-dynamic mathematical model of the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine, developed by Dr. D.A. Greenberg of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This model, developed in 1974 and subsequently refinded, accurately reproduces the tidal current pattern throughout the area. The tidal regime of the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine is essentially of a lunar semidiurnal nature and therefore these currents, which represent those of the principal semidiurnal component, are representative of the actual current.
