Covering more than 300 nautical miles in the Gulf of Mexico, this book guides cruisers along Florida’s gulf coastline from Apalachicola to Anclote Key. Capt. Rick Rhodes also explores the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, Flint, and Suwannee rivers. By including numerous historical anecdotes, Cruising Guide to Florida’s Big Bend gives insight into the region’s past, along with current marina, restaurant, and entertainment recommendations.
Like all of Pelican’s cruising-guide series, this book contains up-to-date and thoroughly researched information about the area, including:
• 26 NOAA chart extracts
• 500 miles of inland river research
• 13 river, lake, and canal sketches
• 11 town street maps
• 66 GPS way points
• 60 fueling locations
• 90 boating facilities
• 160 boat-launch ramps
• hundreds of phone numbers
Capt. Rick Rhodes’ expertise as a sailor is strengthened by his love of travel in general. By the time he was 22, he had visited all 48 contiguous states, mostly by motorcycle. Later, he served with the Peace Corps in Ecuador. From 1981 to 1999, Rhodes lived aboard his 33-foot sailboat and his 28-foot powerboat. He is especially knowledgeable about river cruising, having held a U.S. Coast Guard Master License for inland waters since 1986. Rhodes is also the author of Cruising Guide from Lake Michigan to Kentucky Lake: The Heartland Rivers Route ($28.95 pb), which covers an important segment of the Great Loop.
